Overdough

So we decided to pop by Overdough on a blistering hot day to get some shelter from the sun and indulge in a much-needed ice coffee.

Ordered their soursop meringue tart, the snickers tart and an oreo cheesecake to share. The snickers tart and cheesecake were chocolatey, gooey good but on that soursop meringue was dammmm awesome. Break open the tart and nice refreshing soursop (jam? syrup? no idea but so good) comes flowing out. Light with the right touch of sweetness and citrus encased in the perfectly baked pastry.

We finished it in silence then went to the counter to get more, one is just not enough!

Tiong Bahru Bakery Pt 2

I previously blogged about Tiong Bahru bakery here, so I am not going to rave about how awesome the pastries (esp the Kouign Amnan)  are. Just wanted to highlight how much I enjoyed the butternut pumpkin soup. Ok, I have a weakness for pumpkin and this one was thick, sweet, creamy with 2 fat and fresh prawns.
So good.

Mooshi Bakes

Mooshi Bakes is opened by the Awfully Chocolate Group and we know how good the desserts are (especially the hei ice cream mmmm) , but what about brunch?

The souffle omelette was huge, no wait it was gigantic.  This monster of a omelette scared me when it arrived, I mean how many eggs are in that thing?

That said it was sooo light and fluffy, I am not sure how much air they got into those egg whites but eating this was fun. The sprinkle of parmesan on top gave the omelette enough flavor and it tasted really good with the crusty bread and tomato relish paste.
Too darn big though, I barely made it thru half.

Truffle scrambled eggs had a hearty kick of truffle oil, making this plate smell so darn good. Paired with cheese and pork sausage for a very sinful brunch.
I wish the eggs had been creamier though.

Coffee was below average, cant be helped if the barista is also your waitress I guess, the teh tarik was pretty good though. Overall I like brunch here but I thought the portions were too big, slightly smaller plates at lower price points would be perfect.

Tiong Bahru Bakery

Now that Tiong Bahru Bakery has opened a new branch in Raffles City, it is so much easy to grab a good cup of coffee and sinful pastries.

So much to choose from! But we finally settled on these

The squid ink bread was ridiculously soft, I was so surprised when I poked it and realized how squishy it was! For some reason, it looked really hard in the display. For those who are wondering how squid ink bread taste like, very muted but pleasant. Do try! The sandwich, with ham was delightfully salty.

The star of the bakery, in my opinion kouign amann. No doubt deserving its spot in I.S' top 50 things to eat in Singapore. One sweet, sticky, flaky pastry perfect with coffee.

The croissant was another winner. Intricate layers of pastry, melt in your mouth without the need for any butter. The skill of the baker really came true.

Cant say the same about desserts though, the lemon tart was wayyy too hard and made eating a chore.

Paul

Many popular chain stores are making their way to Singapore, probably starting with Paul followed by Dean & Delucca and Paris Baguette. Hopefully the likes of Laduree and such will start moving to the little red dot too

Had the spinach quiche

And the sirloin

Both were ok, nothing much to shout about. Frankly I did think Paul's is a tad overhyped.
And if I wanted to indulge a good piece of pastry, I would rather head down to Tiong Bahru bakery any day.
