My favorite italian restaurant in the east.<br />
A tiny little restaurant with no-frills decor serving hearty italian pastas and pizzas at affordable prices, hey whats not to like! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
Squid Ink pasta with prawns - I love squid ink anything and this was especially good with a great punch of flavor</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/edwinlow/18526035541" title="image by Edwin Low, on Flickr"><img alt="image" height="480" src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/401/18526035541_fc66364e9b_z.jpg" width="640" /></a>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
Seafood pizza with great chewy crust</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

Seafood risotto chockful with fresh plump scallops, mussels and sweet prawns. mmm</div>

</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Beef which was the disappointment of the night - way too much sauce plus wilted salad and dry mash potatoes urgh. Stick to the pasta and pizzas </div>

Food here was pretty good!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Menu was asian-fusion whats not and may sound confusing but what we had were decidedly tasty and familiar.<br />
<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/edwinlow/18169341816" title="image by Edwin Low, on Flickr"><img alt="image" height="480" src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/9/8763/18169341816_caaf042748_z.jpg" width="640" /></a>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
The Umami Prawn Capellini - I am drawn to anything on that menu that describe itself as Umami. This pasta had a Japanese twist with bonito flakes, seaweed and roe. Nicee</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/edwinlow/18008112610" title="image by Edwin Low, on Flickr"><img alt="image" height="480" src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/9/8795/18008112610_dda6115397_z.jpg" width="640" /></a>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Chilli crab linguine came complete with mantou, a tad too watery but heyyy mantou!<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/edwinlow/18009629289" title="image by Edwin Low, on Flickr"><img alt="image" height="480" src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/9/8883/18009629289_c0bab1555d_z.jpg" width="640" /></a>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
The surprising star of the meal was the apple crumble. Melt in your mouth butter crumbs with a dollop of good vanilla ice cream was the perfect sweet end to our meal<br />

<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">The signboard of My Awesome Cafe reads Telok Ayer Chung Hwa Free Clinic and the cafe is features cement screed floors, pipe lighting and metal chairs - in other words the kitsch hip cafe that I unironically love </span></span></span><span style="font-family: tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"></span> </span></div>

The big breakfast with croissant, scrambled eggs, smoked salmon and generous serving of avocado<br />

If you turn just at edge of punggol, follow the dirt path pass the foreign workers' dormitory, take a left and go all the way in, you will reach an orchid farm.<br />
<br />
Fate brought us to a bbq there, and we were welcomed with open arms by the owner - a warm and friendly uncle gifted with the greenest of fingers as demonstrated by the beautiful flowers around us. <br />

The forever crowded Lola's cafe at Kovan, we popped by on a rainy evening for an early dinner and still had to queue. </div>

The honey paprika wings were sweet, crispy and altogether delicious. Although I felt that the flavor laid more in the skin and did not really penetrate the meat. </div>

Back to <a href="http://tibitzine.blogspot.sg/2015/01/mellben-seafood-opal-crescent.html">Mellben</a> for more crabs! This time at pasir ris, which the eastie in me is deliriously happy about. (We dont have that much good food here in the east i.e. pasir ris, so must celebrate more)<br />
<br />
Mellben in my opinion serves the sweetest crabs. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/edwinlow/17015977154" title="image by Edwin Low, on Flickr"><img alt="image" height="480" src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/9/8770/17015977154_f542425a83_z.jpg" width="640" /></a>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
The signature crab bee hoon soup, rich thick soup filled of crab essence, remember to order extra soup because you are going to want more</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/edwinlow/17450927480" title="image by Edwin Low, on Flickr"><img alt="image" height="640" src="https://c4.staticflickr.com/8/7678/17450927480_ed90a6cb34_z.jpg" width="640" /></a>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The golden sand crab came in a luscious creamy buttery salted egg yolk sauce, soooo good.<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/edwinlow/17452215899" title="image by Edwin Low, on Flickr"><img alt="image" height="480" src="https://c4.staticflickr.com/8/7785/17452215899_f61ca9743d_z.jpg" width="640" /></a>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And finally laksa crab with too much 'hum' , we went overboard and added too much, scaring even the waitresses there lol<br />
<br />
Cholesterol overdose but ah we throw all health concerns out of the window with crabs this good.<br />

That was some pretty good thai noodles, a pity the egg was over-cooked. However the noodles were springy and the sauce tasty. </div>

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Guangzhou has several attractions and we visited a few (Chiamlong safari park, Chiamlong theme park and the wong fei hong temple/museum). Of the three, I highly recommend the safari park which is basically a zoo. Huge place with several types of animals and shows that will occupy old and young equally (who doesnt like cute elephants performing tricks!), one day is almost not enough.<br />
<br />
Best parts of the zoo include</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/edwinlow/17533502021" title="image by Edwin Low, on Flickr"><img alt="image" height="480" src="https://c4.staticflickr.com/8/7775/17533502021_3e2bc3b29f_z.jpg" width="640" /></a>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
baby animals! Theres a nursery where visitors can see tiger cubs, baby monkeys and this adorable baby chimpanzee; he was adorably mischievous and we spent a good 20 mins watching him get up to his antics </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/edwinlow/17507288386" title="image by Edwin Low, on Flickr"><img alt="image" height="480" src="https://c4.staticflickr.com/8/7751/17507288386_7d14485084_z.jpg" width="640" /></a>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
A train ride round the "safari" where animals were divided into different parts of Africa based on where they originated; we got to see zebras, bears, even camels grazing </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/edwinlow/17346082480" title="image by Edwin Low, on Flickr"><img alt="image" height="480" src="https://c2.staticflickr.com/6/5346/17346082480_4463802b27_z.jpg" width="640" /></a>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Close up of animals! Visitors get to feed the animals (for a small fee) and it was so much fun! We fed this lovely giraffe leafy greens and took many a selfie with him. Other animals available for feeding include tigers, elephants, cute little monkeys etc </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/edwinlow/17345909858" title="image by Edwin Low, on Flickr"><img alt="image" height="480" src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/9/8833/17345909858_9088c14e33_z.jpg" width="640" /></a>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And the main attraction - pandas! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Chiam long is home to many pandas, my absolute favorite animal; I spent at least a good hour watching these cute animals going about their own business</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/edwinlow/17346158730" title="image by Edwin Low, on Flickr"><img alt="image" height="480" src="https://c4.staticflickr.com/8/7786/17346158730_cb276269ae_z.jpg" width="640" /></a>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
As luck would have it, we had the privilege of viewing the world's first panda triplets. As the mama panda would only take care of one cub, the other two would have to be taken care by staff. And well taken care they were, with a huge nursery filled with toys. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/edwinlow/16911199404" title="image by Edwin Low, on Flickr"><img alt="image" height="480" src="https://c4.staticflickr.com/8/7707/16911199404_a79328079e_z.jpg" width="640" /></a>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Mama panda with the other cub. Awww </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
Explored the mall next to the apartment, this place serves meat in a large pot with seasoning/spices. This was fish (non-spicy) and the below was prawns (spicy). Both were pretty darn tasty though the spicy version got too numbing after awhile. </div>

So we stayed at the GuangZhou South & North International Apartment which was pretty awesome. Luxuriously decorated in typical chinese style (gold accents, chandeliers, brocade wallpaper etc) and comes furnished with microwave, fridge and a washing machine. Each apartment fits 6 comfortably (3 king size beds) but for some reason only comes with 1 toilet so there may be some awkward situations. But still given the location (next to Beijing lu) it was great. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The train station is a distance away (~10 mins walk)<br />
<br />
As mentioned Guangzhou is basically a less modern Hong Kong so of course, the food was awesome. Especially so if you are a Cantonese (going back to your roots and all that right) <br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/edwinlow/17352164145" title="image by Edwin Low, on Flickr"><img alt="image" height="480" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7696/17352164145_77e7e53e29_z.jpg" width="640" /></a>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
cant do without your combination plate of meats, not as good as the ones in Hong kong but still decent</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
Chanced upon this eatery that serves food from another city (cant quite remember) but the porridge filled with peanuts, seaweed and other bits n pieces plus that dumpling soup was excellent.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
Nothing beats a chok (rice congee) and cheong fun (rice roll) breakfast. The congee was rich and thick, evidence of many hours over a charcoal stove. The orange one came with cordycep but tasted much like the rest (well at least theres some health benefits?). The cheong fun had too much fun, too little ingredients. Still tasty. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Some street food at Shangxaijiu pedestrain street. clams and oysters which were way too garlicky it killed off pretty much any seafood taste urgh. I did get some pretty tasty grilled octopus at the stall next door though</div>

<br />
That said, Guangzhou is basically Hong Kong just less crowded</div>

<br />
I have had my fill of Sunday brunches and ever since the declining standards over at <a href="http://tibitzine.blogspot.sg/2013/09/revisitbrasserie-les-saveurs.html">Les Saveurs</a>, I finally found one worthy enough for you to spend $200 to consume XXX amount of calories.<br />
<br />
Firstly, Sunday brunch at the Knolls is a lively affair with a friendly mariachi band serenading guests as they enter and later on as they get drunk. While variety of the spread is not a lot, most dishes were delicious, and thats whats most important eh - so dont expect foie gras and lobsters. <br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/edwinlow/16679206544" title="image by Edwin Low, on Flickr"><img alt="image" height="480" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7719/16679206544_8d98b59cc8_z.jpg" style="cursor: move;" width="640" /></a>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
Starting off with oysters. Nicely plump and fresh, we got a selection of ~6 kinds, all great! Best thing was the coconut juice, how often do you get to drink all the coconut juice you want (almost tempted to ditch my wine for it)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/edwinlow/16679208494" title="image by Edwin Low, on Flickr"><img alt="image" height="480" src="https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8758/16679208494_dfe25c4f3a_z.jpg" width="640" /></a>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
Close up plus miso cod which was deliciously fat and creamy. I love cod cooked well (hard to find in a buffet) and I wolfed down several slices </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/edwinlow/17301212761" title="image by Edwin Low, on Flickr"><img alt="image" height="480" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7659/17301212761_ba36751d25_z.jpg" width="640" /></a>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
You can also order some items ala-carte (do check with the staff). Heres a nice fluffy pancake we got.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
From the grills - suckling pig, roast beef, lamb sauasages and yes roasted garlic mmmmm</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/edwinlow/16679215944" title="image by Edwin Low, on Flickr"><img alt="image" height="480" src="https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8689/16679215944_c1cf98b2ab_z.jpg" width="640" /></a>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
The awesome cheese cart at our tableside. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
lastly desserts! Usually I am too stuffed for more than a couple bites but the dessert spread here was fantastic. and everything tasted great! My favorites were the chocolate chip cookies and that lemon meringue tart which wonderfully tangy.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/edwinlow/17275724796" title="image by Edwin Low, on Flickr"><img alt="image" height="480" src="https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8775/17275724796_7290184a99_z.jpg" width="640" /></a>
</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Moarrr (yes 3 plates worth of desserts)</div>

<br />
Dont you just love brunching at CBD area on a weekend? So empty and parking is so effortless</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
SPRKMRKT is an airy bright cafe featuring a small retail space (with super overpriced cutlery and kitchenware I must say)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Overall I found brunch here to be disappointing but maybe I just ordered the wrong stuff?</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

Both egg dishes were slightly underdone and tasted ok, somewhat lackluster. Would also prefer a bun instead of mashed potatoes, the overall effect of the dish was just too lacking in crunch for me. (no the tiny bits of croutons didnt help)<br />

Theres nothing I like more on a cold evening than a bowl of minced pork congee and runny egg. Twirling the yellow yolk in your porridge till it partially cooked then scooping everything in your mouth mmm... Ah Chiang porridge was pretty good, creamy just the way I like it</div>

I am so glad that there are more and more cafes popping up in the east (although as of writing this, I am no longer staying in the east but the north-east fml)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
I like Group Therapy at Katong V because it is not overly crowded (plus you get to wait in the comfortable air-conditioned mall, rather than at the sides of a street) and has a nice cozy vibe.<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/edwinlow/16928349408" title="image by Edwin Low, on Flickr"><img alt="image" height="480" src="https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8795/16928349408_106c2b6815_z.jpg" width="640" /></a>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
My luscious eggs ben came drowned in hollandaise sauce and with several generous slices of smoked salmon mmmm </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
Another smoked salmon breakfast (less sinful but not as shiok)<br />
<br />
Coffee here was decent as well. Some how the cakes here dont look too appealing though, usually I am unable to resist getting a slice but here, nah.. <br />

If you are still on the fence about whether to get the Entertainer App, get it because of Fat Cow.<br />
Where steaks can go for as high as $288, the Entertainer App that gives you 1 for 1 offers on all main course is super worth it. Put it this way, the discount received from a meal at Fat Cow more than covers what you paid for for the app. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/edwinlow/16840417199" title="image by Edwin Low, on Flickr"><img alt="image" height="375" src="https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8755/16840417199_8a67a558b5.jpg" width="500" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
At the counter, watching the chef fire up our orders. It was fun watching the chefs cook and horrified when they sliced away large chunks of meat from cuts of steak and threw them away (probably cos not acceptable quality but those are Wagyu bits, I will gladly eat them!)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/edwinlow/16840418369" title="image by Edwin Low, on Flickr"><img alt="image" height="500" src="https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8710/16840418369_f9a4d87b51.jpg" width="375" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
Starting the meal with a cocktail, this had champagne in it and went down easy.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/edwinlow/16839104970" title="image by Edwin Low, on Flickr"><img alt="image" height="375" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7636/16839104970_0e039f1c0b.jpg" width="500" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Crab cakes which I love ordering at steak houses. This was decent but the ones at Morton's kick its ass.<br />
<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/edwinlow/17025774901" title="image by Edwin Low, on Flickr"><img alt="image" height="375" src="https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8745/17025774901_18e040cf35.jpg" width="500" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
BBQ eggplant with miso. Too much miso makes for a too salty appetizer</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/edwinlow/17000648626" title="image by Edwin Low, on Flickr"><img alt="image" height="500" src="https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8701/17000648626_bd2ac6aac5.jpg" width="500" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />Finally. The star of the show - this was the half cut grade 4 ribeye (look at the fat!)<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/edwinlow/17026641255" title="image by Edwin Low, on Flickr"><img alt="image" height="375" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7612/17026641255_c7df7e4b63.jpg" width="500" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Served with tomatos and some sauce which you need not bother with.<br />
The beef was tender, melt-in-your-mouth buttery good</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/edwinlow/16404221444" title="image by Edwin Low, on Flickr"><img alt="image" height="375" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7600/16404221444_3374f12cc9.jpg" width="500" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
Pair it with fat rice - steamed rice seasoned with wagyu beef sauce.<br />
Seriously good rice. I am not fan of plain white rice but this entire bowl, yup I can eat it on its own just like that.<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/edwinlow/17025195342" title="image by Edwin Low, on Flickr"><img alt="image" height="375" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7623/17025195342_4974031476.jpg" width="500" /></a></div>

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
Somehow the food at the Lokal just taste healthier, I love it! Ok maybe because most of the food is done inhouse, like the smoked salmon which was fantastic.<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/edwinlow/16269406574" title="image by Edwin Low, on Flickr"><img alt="image" height="375" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7634/16269406574_8fbe59e3a8.jpg" width="500" /> </a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
We pimped our own breakfast and went with smoked salmon, scrambled eggs, spinach, bacon and pumpernickel. Every single item was delicious, esp that smoked salmon. No as salty and stringy as those store-bought ones, you got to try it.<br />
<br />
The chicken salad topped with avocado and bacon was really good too, basically we wolfed down the food in seconds lol</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/edwinlow/16890577102" title="image by Edwin Low, on Flickr"><img alt="image" height="375" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7597/16890577102_f1656177c1.jpg" width="500" /> </a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Roasted beef on rye sandwich came stuffed with delicious sweet onions and tasty beef.<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I am quite bored with the usual branch places serving the usual eggs ben and waffles so the Lokal manages to give brunch a more unique twist. One of the better places to breakfast, will definitely be back.<br />

So I came here when it was called Two Face but apparently it has since closed and reopened with a different name (but similar food and concept, huh?)<br />
<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Pretty ingenious concept I must say - coffeeshop in the day, pizza joint at night and transformed simply via black chalk boards covering the other stalls whilst doubling up as the specials menu. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/edwinlow/16578432318" title="image by Edwin Low, on Flickr"><img alt="image" height="375" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7281/16578432318_95073a2f0e.jpg" width="500" /></a></div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Smoked duck pizza came with delicious silvers of duck meat and soft sweet garlic. Tasty! Though I wished there was more meat.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Har Cheong Gai was decent but give me the original at zhi char stalls anytime.<br />

I must confess that I cant really tell the difference between Korean bbqs. Sure theres the seoul garden standard (which I try not to go anywhere near) but other than that, yup cant tell the difference between an average bbq and a really good one.<br />
<br />
That said, I enjoyed my meal at Superstar K. I liked the complimentary sides, esp that steamed egg. And the meats were well-marinated and tasty </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Finally, finally making a trip after hearing so many rave reviews. Btw I have yet to try Creamier and its been on my to-try list for ever.<br />
<br />
As we all know Sunday Folks is opened by the same folks behind Creamier so concept is largely the same except Soft-serve instead of normal ice cream.<br />
<br />
Getting a seat here is a lesson in strategy. Get a friend to start queuing then a few friends scattered around the tiny little cafe, staking out tables then swooping in and try to squeeze as many as you can around a tiny table. <br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/edwinlow/16401448827" title="image by Edwin Low, on Flickr"><img alt="image" height="800" src="https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8660/16401448827_c9e16a2f9b_c.jpg" width="600" /> </a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This was the pistachio soft-serve with waffle. The waffles were awesome, crispy and fluffy. Pistachio was so-so, dont think the flavour really came through for me. Same goes with the lavender soft-serve.<br />
I think I will very much prefer these waffles with the awesome coconut + avocado ice cream from daily scoop a few doors down.</div>

<br />
<br />
<br />
So the food trend in 2013/2014 seemed to be seafood done Cajun style aka eating fresh seafood cooked in some kind of sauce with your bare hands. (Btw, this year's trend seems to be frozen yogurt/soft serve).<br />
Yes I know my posts are always a couple of too many months late but better late than never yes?<br />
<br />
So with so many of these Cajun style places, I decided to opt for the one with what seemed like had the lion's share of good reviews. Dancing Crab at the Grandstand is opened by the Tung Lok group hence not speaking much for its authenticity but on the other hand almost guaranteed good quality (since Tung Lok specializes in Seafood right?)<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<img alt="image" height="480" src="https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8672/15977479713_e5a9f67893_z.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
The crab cakes arrived looking pretty sad but surprisingly tasty and fresh. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
We got 3 seafood combos - with signature sauce, herb butter and Buerre Blanc respectively.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/edwinlow/16411418879" title="image by Edwin Low, on Flickr"><img alt="image" height="480" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7281/16411418879_b947610ce1_z.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Bag 1 - with prawns, crab, mussels and strangely potatoes and sausages.All drenched in the spicy signature sauce and tossed on the table for you to dig in. Personally, the signature sauce which was sweet and spicy (like a version of the chilli crab sauce without egg) was my favorite. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/edwinlow/15975092484" title="image by Edwin Low, on Flickr"><img alt="image" height="480" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7344/15975092484_5a55b1c050_z.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The cold seafood combo with alaskan king crab, prawns, clams and mussels was delightfully fresh and sweet. This came with the Buerre Blanc sauce but honestly with seafood so sweet, no extra sauce needed, just your hands and ice cold beer. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/edwinlow/15977484783" title="image by Edwin Low, on Flickr"><img alt="image" height="480" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7423/15977484783_65c2b60f49_z.jpg" width="640" /></a>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Last combo - essentially the same thing without the crab came in herb butter sauce. A tad too rich for me but the herb butter sauce was a hit with many of the folks on the table. <br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/edwinlow/16597257245" title="image by Edwin Low, on Flickr"><img alt="image" height="480" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7381/16597257245_78e9842d36_z.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Lastly, the much raved about lobster rolls. I honestly thought they were ok, bit much of an after-though at our table actually what with the fanfare given to the rest of the seafood. Was decent but I would rather make room for the fresh seafood.<br />

I am not a 'tai-tai' so unfortunately have very little opportunities for high-tea. When opportunities arise though, its pretty awesome to spend an afternoon indulging in finger food and oooh-aahing at the lovely displays during high-tea. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/edwinlow/16578032512" title="image by Edwin Low, on Flickr"><img alt="image" height="480" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7441/16578032512_4e3654b86c_z.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
(pardon the blur picture, we got a bit too excited). High tea at Anti:dote provides you with 2 choices, differing only in the first dish - option between truffled scrambled eggs and a selection of dim sum. Seriously dont need to choose, just go for the truffled eggs. Delightfully presented in an egg shell with a perfect round black truffle slice on top, the scrambled eggs were creamy and delicious. Perfectly paired with the toasted soldiers. <br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/edwinlow/15956600794" title="image by Edwin Low, on Flickr"><img alt="image" height="640" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7300/15956600794_b89a023ce6_z.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
Next up came the wonderful presentation of the rest of the items (these were for 3 pax) in a set of drawers where one can open to reveal more surprises. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Seriously too pretty. A wide array of savory (smoked salmon tart, lobster roll) and even more sweets (lemon macarons, chocolate truffles, eclairs, scones etc)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
I didnt manage to try everything but my favorites were the lobster roll, chocolate tart and those tangy lemon macarons.<br />
Very lovely high-tea and a feast both for your eyes and tummy. Quite reasonably priced too (~$38++ per pax)<br />

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Part 2 of eating around hong kong, a series of table top shots of food lol</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/edwinlow/16276761788" title="image by Edwin Low, on Flickr"><img alt="image" height="480" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7301/16276761788_0a23e98f2c_z.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
One can't go to Hong Kong and not eat dim sum<br />
Must orders - egg tart and the roast meat platter. No one makes it as good as they do in HK</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/edwinlow/16277023810" title="image by Edwin Low, on Flickr"><img alt="image" height="480" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7454/16277023810_9a32dbe336_z.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
Mmm look at that</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/edwinlow/16319096389" title="image by Edwin Low, on Flickr"><img alt="image" height="481" src="https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8564/16319096389_da7d41a1ea_z.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Protip : The sashimi in Hong Kong is super fresh and cheap. Just go to any good supermarket and hit the sashimi section. We went crazy and basically had a sashimi party, look at all that uni! And costs us a fraction of what would have been in Singapore</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/edwinlow/16317646698" title="image by Edwin Low, on Flickr"><img alt="image" height="480" src="https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8567/16317646698_9fa7749ee3_z.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
And a late night supper at Tsui Wah of course, I can't resist a bowl of 'gong zai mee' aka Maggi noodles and that toasted bun<br />
<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/edwinlow/16373748940" title="image by Edwin Low, on Flickr"><img alt="image" height="480" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7344/16373748940_8ed1b7bb06_z.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
close up of them buns</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/edwinlow/16560098232" title="image by Edwin Low, on Flickr"><img alt="image" height="480" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7336/16560098232_f27d5f7844_z.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Finally trying this. Truffle scrambled eggs at Australian Dairy Company. Maybe cos we were all so full but it felt over-rated. The truffle taste was very much muted, the eggs were nice and fluffy</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/edwinlow/16560102062" title="image by Edwin Low, on Flickr"><img alt="image" height="480" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7368/16560102062_ce2386729f_z.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
In typical Singaporean-ness, saw this long queue and had to try this. Kau Kee beef brisket to be specific. Protip - skip the queue and go get takeaway. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And wow this was the best beef brisket, and probably the best thing I ate in Hong Kong. MUST TRY</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/edwinlow/16375290247" title="image by Edwin Low, on Flickr"><img alt="image" height="640" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7428/16375290247_53a6f5b106_z.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And ending off our trip with a bucketfull of tau huey </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

Short trip to Hong Kong for a girlfriend's hens night. Stayed at the Hyatt Regency Shatin which was soo out of the way of everything but what a lovely view!<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/edwinlow/16463637005" title="image by Edwin Low, on Flickr"><img alt="image" height="480" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7334/16463637005_ea54c2eb6d_z.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Ended up not really a hen's party kind of trip but more of an eating one lol (what's new) </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/edwinlow/15841124854" title="image by Edwin Low, on Flickr"><img alt="image" height="640" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7445/15841124854_2899344085_z.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
No trip to Hong Kong complete without the best eggtart ever, at Tai Chung Bakery. Eat it on the street, when it is hot out of the oven, then double back and buy 12 more because you know you cant stop at one. Tai Chung used to be an old school 'hole in the wall' kind of place but now its pretty commercialized. Still good though </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/edwinlow/16276212360" title="image by Edwin Low, on Flickr"><img alt="image" height="480" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7442/16276212360_e72fa88bcb_z.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
A short walk over to the best Wanton mee ever at Mak's noodle. Do do do order the dry noodle with roe, full of umami goodness and the noodle is so QQ! The beef brisket is pretty kick ass too.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/edwinlow/16277399519" title="image by Edwin Low, on Flickr"><img alt="image" height="480" src="https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8653/16277399519_b036b8c389_z.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /> One meal is not enough! Headed opposite to Tsim Chai Kee for their rendition with huge wantons (like literally 6 prawns per wanton). The difference in both were quite stark if you eat them one after the other. Mak's beats Tsim hands down in my opinion.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/edwinlow/16276214310" title="image by Edwin Low, on Flickr"><img alt="image" height="480" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7386/16276214310_febd2a976e_z.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Last but not least, some street food. curry fishball anyone? <br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/edwinlow/16276215940" title="image by Edwin Low, on Flickr"><img alt="image" height="640" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7459/16276215940_8db73b2f35_z.jpg" width="480" /> </a><br />
oh yes, and the best dessert drink at Hui Lau Shan. A delicious mixture of mango, coconut, aloe vera etc. Soo good, we had one everyday </div>

Popped by for brunch after a night at the next door W Hotel (staycation!)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Not your typical brunch place , Quayside serves beautifully plated dishes highlighting fresh seafood.<br />
Like this gorgeous softshell chilli crab linguine </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Perfect for the Singaporean palate, the sauce was sweet and surprisingly spicy. Good if you like a bit of kick to your dish</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Squid ink pasta was equally luscious with the umami flavours of the squid ink standing out.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/edwinlow/16255977950" title="image by Edwin Low, on Flickr"><img alt="image" height="480" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7413/16255977950_cb0f4d1bf7_z.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Cod fish burger with fries. Probably the most disappointing dish with too hard buns and slightly overcooked cod. Just an overall dry dish, texturally. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Snapper Pie with fries, the pastry was nice and flaky. I thought the pie was a tad too watery but nonetheless tasty.<br />
<br />
<br />
Overall, not a bad place for brunch although I would stick to the pasta dishes<br />
