The orchid garden in Jalan Kayu

If you turn just at edge of punggol, follow the dirt path pass the foreign workers' dormitory, take a left and go all the way in, you will reach an orchid farm.

Fate brought us to a bbq there, and we were welcomed with open arms by the owner - a warm and friendly uncle gifted with the greenest of fingers as demonstrated by the beautiful flowers around us.

I dont call myself a lover of flowers but these were just so beautiful. Rows and rows of healthy blooming orchids in all bright vibrant colors.

Such old school sights are becoming quite rare in Singapore, so lets all cherish what we have around us eh.

Genki Sushi @ Chinatown Poin

Oh this was so much fun. In a bid to improve productivity and reduce the strain on manpower, Genki Sushi "employs" these train tracks to deliver sushi right to your table. Just place an order on the iPads and a couple minutes later woosh, your order right at your table, pick it up and the trains go back to the kitchen to pick up the next order.
So much fun to eat and watch the trains moving back and forth. In fact, we only interacted with the waitress once, to pay our bill.  There is even a slot on the table for clearing of plates, really impressed with such effective use of technology.  thumbs up to innovators who instead of whining about lack of manpower, high levy etc find ways to solve their problems.

Anyway I thought the food was good and cheap, especially compared to other sushi chains
*cough sakae cough*

South Coast, MBS

A quick lunch at South Coast before heading for ArtStage Singapore.
These days, if we do not know what to eat we will whip out the Entertainer app and try one of the deals nearby, I guess at least the concept the app is trying to sell works eh.

South Coast is one of the several restaurants by the boardwalk outside MBS so you get a nice view of the bay and tourists milling around outside the art science museum. Portions here are huge, we got the fish and chips  + wagyu burger. The fish was the better of the 2 dishes, didn't particularly like the burger of its fried bun, just too heavy overall.

Soo 3rd year at ArtStage and I thought this year's was the best showing I have been too. Somehow the exhibits were more interesting and relatable.

Artwork of bugs- beautifully creepy

And my favourite piece, a ridiculously lifelike 3d drawing. So in awe of the talent that I was secretly relieved the artist's works had all been sold (but of course) because I might have plonked down that 5-8 grand for these drawings.

Tea and some wedding shopping

What to have for tea-break?
Coffee is a must. Something sweet, something savory.

So we settled for carrot cake and those too addictive truffle fries at PS cafe.
10 mins later and gone.

Well actually the main aim of this post was to show-off the lovely pair of heels I got for my wedding.
I am like a magpie I love shiny stuff. Love love love

Looking back: 2013

Damm, 2013 flew by too fast. I could vividly remember counting down to 2013 (unfortunately was stuck at home with food poisoning ) and suddenly its 2014! Fortunately, this time I was perfectly healthy and spent it over lovely wine, cheese and friends.

2013 was a pretty good year, the only down side was my health and body in general - probably the year where I went to the doctors the most: food poisoning 3 times, hamstring injury with 6 mths of physio and other small illnesses here and there. Hopefully 2014 will be a healthier year in general.

Heres a look back at some of my favourite meals of 2013:

1. Found my favourite Japanese restaurant with the best Foie Gras and visiting it again and again : Mikuni , Pt 2, Pt 3, Pt 4

2. Best ramen this year: Keisuke Tori King

3. Ordering fresh seafood and getting them cooked on the spot at Talipapa - Boracay

4. Stuffing myself at Savour 2013, so much fun!

5. Best chirashi still going to Chikuwatei

6. Going back to Bangkok for my favourite Dinphow Cuisine and falling in love with papaya salad at Som Tum Nua

7. Best steak dinner? At Skirt of course

8. Best brunch : I can't decide between  Department of Caffeine  and Common Man

9. Other great meals include Mexican at lucha Loca and Italian at Pasta Brava. Of course I still have about 2 months left of meals to blog for 2013 lol so perhaps I will count them in the list for next year.

2014 will be an exciting year, what with the wedding coming up and my new house!
Heres to a Happy and healthy 2014! Cheers!

Our very own restaurant week

This year, we decided to organise our very own Restaurant Week, hosted by a friend who watches too much master chef.

On the menu - steak, salmon and alcohol

The meat - before and after

Home-cooked meals are the best, especially when with your friends/family.
The best thing on the table were those roasted whole garlic (little aluminium balls ), so sweet and soft, darn good when spread on bread.

Thankful for such wonderful people in my life :)
